Helene and Toomas’ wedding at Castello Zamittello was a celebration full of character, emotion, music, and wonderfully unexpected moments — exactly the kind of wedding that feels alive from beginning to end. Travelling from Estonia to Malta with their closest family and friends, they created a day that was not only beautiful, but completely true to who they are.
From the very first messages, it was clear that Helene and Toomas valued photography not only as a record of the day, but as a way of preserving feeling. For them, wedding images were about holding onto the warmth of memories, especially during the long darker winters back home in Estonia. Their story is full of humour, connection, music, and friendship — two people who met in an unexpected way, talked for hours, and built a relationship around laughter, honesty, and a shared love for life’s slightly weird and wonderful moments.
The day began at Castello Zamittello, where both Helene and Toomas prepared within the castle before the ceremony. Helene’s look was beautifully elegant, with her wedding dress from Looris in Estonia, makeup by Julia Bachesque, and hair styled by her cousin, Maarja from Vurhv. Her jewellery included earrings by Ateliers Saint Germain, while their wedding rings came from an Estonian store — a meaningful detail that kept a part of home close throughout the day.
The ceremony took place within the historic setting of Castello Zamittello, surrounded by the warm Maltese stone and the people who had travelled to celebrate with them. Music by Mark and Simon, coordinated through Tunin, added a beautiful atmosphere to the ceremony and cocktail hour, creating a feeling that was both intimate and joyful.
After the ceremony, guests gathered for the clicking of glasses and group photos before we spent some time with Helene and Toomas for portraits around Mġarr. The landscape, the light, and the natural quietness of the area gave us space to create images that felt honest and full of atmosphere — not overly posed, but guided by their connection and the story of the day.
As the evening unfolded back at Castello Zamittello, the celebration moved into dinner and music. Planned and coordinated by Tunin, with décor and floral arrangements also handled through their team, the setting felt warm, relaxed, and full of personality. The cinematography was captured by Matthew from EWF, while the reception music was brought to life by The Residents 5pc.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was Helene and Toomas’ first dance. Rather than choosing something expected, they shared a quiet and sincere Estonian moment with “Ukuaru Valss”, played on accordion by Helene’s brother. In the middle of the party energy, it created a deeply personal pause — tender, emotional, and beautifully connected to their roots.
Their other song choices, including “Love Today” by Mika and “Raphael’s Final Act” by Borislav Slavov, reflected their eclectic personalities and love for music beyond genre. This was very much a wedding that embraced contrast: elegant but playful, emotional but funny, intimate but full of life.
What stood out most about Helene and Toomas’ wedding was their ability to let the day be itself.
