The Phoenicia hotel, is an iconic hotel which is surrounded by gorgeous landscaped gardens and located just outside the vibrant capital of Valletta on the edge of the city’s 16th Century bastions. The Phoenicia Malta can be considered as a national treasure and has a variety of classically refined interiors, alongside fresh outdoor spaces.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The hotel used to be named the Le Méridien Phoenicia, and has an Art Deco style. The hotel was built in the 1930s, and was opened in November 1947. In June 2015 the hotel was closed during a €15 million restoration and refurbishment. The refurbishment was expected to be complete by March 2016, but works were ready by 2018. Throughout the years, the Phoenicia has hosted a number of distinguished guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Edwina Mountbatten, Alec Guinness, Jeffrey Hunter, Gérard Depardieu, Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Joaquin Phoenix and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

THE HOTEL AS A WEDDING VENUE

The hotel is licensed to host civil ceremonies onsite, either indoors or in the majestic landscaped gardens. The hotel has a number of different locations and features refined and elegant rooms like the Green Lounges and Knights Room, ideal for cosy dinner parties, or the iconic Grand Ballroom or Bastion Pool, with the Valletta fortifications as a backdrop.

The Grand Ballroom

"Where kings have courted the Queens who danced”. The Grand Ballroom for over 70 years has been a landmark in Maltese history. This stunning venue is as old as the hotel but with a modern classical twist and is full of the romantic charm every ballroom long for. It also has its own private cloakroom facilities and private entrance.

The Green Lounges

The elegant and flexible rooms can be combined to host up to 160 persons. They have large windows with a lot of natural daylight. The rooms also have views of the city of Floriana.

These rooms are amazing as a preparation room for the bride and I would strongly suggest their use in view that from a photography point of view they are amazing in the quality of light and also due to their space and neutral background.

The Maryanski Porch

A beautiful space bursting with natural daylight is sure to leave a lasting impression. Its wall to wall glass doors open out onto a private patio overlooking landscaped gardens. The location also has access to the terrace and Rotunda and is adjacent to The Grand Ballroom.

The Bastion Pool

Once you pass through the landscaped gardens, you can arrive to the edge of the gardens where you pass through the twinkling lights sparkle in the bougainvillea arches to enter the area overlooking Marsamxett Harbour. The Pool area is built over the Historic bastion walls and has an Infinity pool. There is also a separate entrance to this venue location, if required.

The Rotunda

The Rotunda is surrounded by evergreen lawns and historic charm and has an art deco fountain. The Rotunda also has a separate event entrance and a historical backdrop.

For larger weddings of up to 1000 guests, the Grand Ballroom, the Maryanski Porch and the Rotunda may be combined for a spacious and stunning indoor-outdoor solution.

The Phoenicia hotel is not only located in an amazing location, right just outside of Valletta which gives you access to the best photoshoot locations but is also my top tier hotel with regards to service and attention to detail. Apart from this, the hotel area and possibilities of venues make it a very flexible location - making this hotel my top recommended hotel venue for a wedding in Malta.
