General information

Villa Bologna offers a truly special space for your event, whether it's a romantic wedding, a cultural extravaganza, or a corporate affair. The highlight of this venue is undoubtedly its magnificent gardens, where centuries-old citrus orchards, majestic fountains, and verdant lawns create a magical ambiance.

The gardens are a true delight, boasting various charming corners and hidden nuances that add an extra touch of allure to your event. Depending on your preferences, the venue offers a range of options and will assist you in selecting the perfect setting for your occasion. For your peace of mind, the venue also provides a backup indoor option within our garden marquee, overlooking the Dolphin Pond and lawns.

At Villa Bologna, every event is exclusive and unforgettable. From the elegant main villa to the delightful pathways, every corner of Villa Bologna reflects the warmth of a cherished family home.

Steeped in history, Villa Bologna was built in 1745 as a wedding present, a symbol of love and refinement. Over the years, it has been home to remarkable individuals, including Sir Gerald Strickland, a distinguished Maltese politician. Today, the villa is lovingly cared for by Gerald de Trafford, Lord Strickland’s grandson, and his son Jasper de Trafford.

The Villa Bologna Garden, a harmonious blend of old-world charm and contemporary grace, is a testament to the rich heritage of Malta. Divided into the old garden and the new, this space showcases the evolution of its beauty. The baroque garden, created in the 18th century, features a symmetrical layout adorned with citrus trees. Over time, ornamental trees and lush lawns have been added, enhancing the garden's splendour. The exotic trees, a legacy from Lord Strickland’s travels, add a touch of exotic allure to this enchanting sanctuary.

Photographically the venue is amazing as it offers numerous possibilities including the capability to use a back garden, the beautiful architecture and if arrangements are done the indoor rooms. The place is well lit, although the outdoor gardens may need some additional lighting for guests for evening weddings. Unfortunately the venue does not offer an adjacent parking area for guests.
